• During Jurassic Period (180 million years ago), the state bordered North Africa. 
  
• In 1787, the third state to ratify the United States Constitution, preventing New York and Pennsylvania from charging tariffs on goods imported from Europe. 
• Since 1887, the light, fluffy and chewy candy, "salt water taffy" has been a boardwalk staple.
• In 1921, hosted the first Miss America Pageant (Atlantic City). 
  
• In 1933, debuted the first drive-in movie theatre (Camden).

• Most beach communities charge a daily fee ($3-$6) upon payment you're given a "beach tag" to be displayed.
  
• Insects are known to carry Lyme Disease and West Nile Virus.
• Caught in a rip tide, swim parallel to the coast.
  
• Beach dog walking is only permitted during off-season.
• Attendants are required to pump your gas (not yourself) as it's unlawful.
• Dingman's Ferry Bridge charges a toll in both directions. 
  
• New York Waterway has ferry terminals at Belford, Edgewater, Hoboken, Jersey City and Weehawken.
