Spanish speaking customs, a person's given name is followed by two family surnames, the father's and ending with the mother's. Upon marriage the spouses last name follows their middle name and their family surnames placement remains the same. Example: First Name, Middle Name, Married Surname, Father's Surname, and Mother's Surname.
In the LGBTQ+ community tend to choose who will make the name change or hyphenate last names. Some forgo either surname and jointly decide to take on a new one.
