- Official language is Tunisian Arabic, known as Tounsi.
- Menus, road signs, shop signs are usually written in both Arabic and French.
- Nude and topless sunbathing is permitted on many beaches.
- Polygamy is outlawed.
- Between July - August due to high temperatures strive for sightseeing before 1PM and after 5PM.
- Air pollution is a moderate problem in major cities.
- Bars and cafes tend not to welcome women where locals typically visit.
- Evenings require a sweater year round.
- Avoid medical tourism.
- Ancient ruins of Carthage are a popular attraction. Also known for ancient baths, sweeping views of the Gulf of Tunis, theaters, and villas.

- Consensual same-sex sexual relations is illegal and punishable up to 3 years in prison.
