  • Indianapolis Motor Speedway was the first long-distance auto race across our nation.
  • The annual “Picture Postmark” Contest is a holiday postmark designed by a local high school art student created in response to the hundreds of mail sent to Santa Claus, IN over the Christmas Holiday.
  • Orville Redenbacher (1907–1995), Entrepreneur studied agronomy at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN. After graduation, he perfected and sold Redenbacher Popcorn from the trunk of his car.

  • Chiggers (Berry Bugs/Trombiculidae) are widespread. To avoid their intense itching do not sit on the ground or stand in weeds. Dawn-dusk mosquitos are plentiful. Prime tick season is April-June.
  • State is divided into two time zones Central and Eastern Time.
  • Has produced more National Basketball Association (NBA) players than any other state.
  • There are 20 drive-in theaters throughout the state.
