  • In 1940, along the Kentucky River became the birthplace to Beer Cheese.
  • Due to their high calcium soil in the Bluegrass region became a popular horse breeding area.
  • Thoroughbreds is a horse breed best known for horse racing. "Hot-blooded" horses best known for their agility, speed, and spirit. Thoroughbred sometimes refers to any breed of purebred horses.
  • Produces 95% of the world's supply of bourbon whiskey. 
  • Aside from Alaska, it has more navigable miles of water than any other state.
  • Home to the world's longest cave system, Mammoth Cave National Park.
  • One of only five states that elects its state officials in odd-numbered years.
  • One of three other states officially called "commonwealths".
  • Morehead State University (MSU) is one of our nation's only to offer a Space Science degree.
  • The Louisville Slugger Baseball Bat is made in Kentucky.
